Jaire

Yawning, I rolled over and realized that Taina wasn’t laying next to me. I picked up my phone and saw that it was three in the afternoon. I was surprised that I had slept that late but then again, I did need the rest. It was going on a month of hustling hard, and it seemed like it was all about to pay off. Slick wanted to meet with me today, and I was more than ready. In my mind, that meeting was about to change the whole trajectory of me and Taina’s life.

Prettiest Baby: I tried to wake you, but you were knocked out, lol. Get your rest daddy, I’ll see you when I get off.

I smiled at Taina’s text before getting out of bed. I still hadn’t told her about meeting with Slick because nothing had really changed for me. The promise of something wasn’t the action of something. Until Slick put me in that position, then it was just bunch of words and promises. After I took a leak, I took care of my hygiene then went into the living room. The smell of fried chicken made my stomach rumble.

“Wassup?” I spoke to Sasha as she stood at the stove in some sweats and a baby t-shirt.

“Hey, Jaire. Did you sleep good?” She briefly looked at me.

I went into the refrigerator and grabbed out a Gatorade. “Yeah, it was straight.”

“That’s good. You can help yourself to this food when I’m done,” she offered.

I nodded because I was hungry as fuck. Taina wasn’t the cooking type, so we ate out a lot. Being able to enjoy a home cooked meal wasn’t something that I minded. Since T had come to me about wanting to kick Sasha out, nothing had happened. Sasha still lived with us, and T kept acting like she didn’t exist. I was out of the house a lot, so Sasha’s presence didn’t bother me for real. Mainly because I normally only saw her when I came in and she was asleep, or when I was on my way out the door. We interacted here and there, and she seemed cool enough, but I really didn’t know a whole lot about her.

“Are you planning to get a job or something?” I asked, deciding to make an effort to see what was to her.

“Uh, I mean…I want to, but I don’t want my ex to be able to track me down. I have money saved, so I can start pitching in for rent and bills,” she extended with her back still to me.

“That’s not really why I was asking. I guess I’m just curious as to how long you’re planning to stay? Taina won’t say much about you.”

She remained quiet as she took the last few pieces of chicken out of the pot. Turning all the eyes off on the stove, she finally turned around and looked at me.

“If you want me out of your house, Jaire, you can just tell me to leave. I don’t want to mess up yours and Taina’s relationship.
