THE ROOM WAS MOVED deeply after hearing Lincoln’s story, and there was a respectful silence when he finished. That did not last long, for after he had taken his seat, reporters were buzzing once more. There were legal implications in Cherrie’s marrying someone while she was already engaged to another man, and with this latest story, she was potentially now in deeper waters.

As Lincoln took his seat, before the judge could ask prosecutor Monroe to call upon another witness, suddenly a young, red-haired woman burst into the courtroom, running down to the stand, followed by three well-dressed men.

“Where is Harry Madison?” she was demanding.

“Young lady, you are interrupting a case in session,” the judge responded sternly. “Please leave now, or face charges of contempt of court.”

“I contempt court with a case of my own!” the woman screamed out. “These are my counselors and I am here to press charges against Harry Madison for breach of marital engagement. I demand that I be allowed to speak.”

The crowd was now beside themselves with shock with yet another turn of events, this time, involving the plaintiff, who now could be charged with a crime of breach of marital engagement himself. They soon quieted and listened in, as the judge granted the floor to the newcomer, recognized as Dorothy Reagan, a California actress and businesswoman.
