CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

W e watched her leave on wobbly legs.

“I’ll get Alex to take her home,” Shade said as he put his phone to his ear. “Yo, get the girl when she comes out.” He went silent for a moment and then frowned. “Well, then go after her.” More silence. “Are you fucking kidding me? You’re her damn escort! Don’t be such a lazy fuck.”

My eyes narrowed and I snatched Shade’s phone from his ear and put it to my own. “Alex, pick the fucking girl up and take her home. She’s been fed on.”

“Not my problem, boss. She’s not who I’m paid to protect,” Alex replied stubbornly.

I growled down the phone. “Go and get her, you fucking inbred, or you’ll regret it.”

There was silence on the phone before he finally replied. “Fine.”

He hung up on me and my eye twitched at his audacity. Who the fuck did he think he was? I was a fucking Weiz. I gave the phone back to Shade and pursed my lips. “He hung up on you?” Shade asked, already knowing the answer. “Fucking hell, I’m glad Skye’s taking him off our backs. He’s such a prick.”

I clenched my jaw as I felt someone wrap their hands around my bicep, followed by fake tits. I peered down at Sam who had sniffed me out like a damn dog in heat. “Hey, Mason, seems as you’re here, do you wanna dance with me?” She squeezed my arm tighter and Shade scoffed loudly, then stalked off towards the stairs leading up to our office.

He did have a point; I did let Sam away with a lot. I probably shouldn’t, she was starting to think she could stake a claim on me and that wasn’t fucking happening. She was far too pretentious and fake for my liking. Besides, she smelled like cheap shit. I wasn’t sinking my fangs into her, especially after tasting Skye. My sultry little fox.

I gave Sam a deadened look, which I hoped relayed my non-verbal message to back the fuck off. Her elevator didn’t go up to the top floor though, stopping on stupid. “Come on, Mase, dance with me. I’m all yours and you can have as much of me as you like,” she said suggestively.

I tsked and yanked my arm out of her claws. “Enough, Sam. Don’t call me Mase, and I’m not drinking from you. Find someone else willing to take your cheap blood,” I growled, then stormed off after Shade. I pushed people out of the way as I steamrolled through them, catching up to Shade on the third floor.

“Did you tell her next time?” Shade asked waspishly, still stalking up the stairs.

I grabbed his now warm arm and pulled him to a stop. He looked down at me from above with a deep scowl, but folded his arms and waited me out. “I told her it wasn’t going to happen, so calm your shit.”

His intense blue eyes looked between mine guardedly, but he would find nothing but truth in them.
