Adella planned to set up a sharing schedule within the family, so that everyone could have access to the house and vacation there without overcrowding or conflict. She hired a social coordinator to work with the family member schedules, And organize the family functions of the household.

"Excellent. I will return in a few days to see where we are, and invite some of my aunts and uncles. Will we will start with them." She would sit everyone down so they could begin forming an understanding. She would not treat them as they treated her, or keep them out.

By the next morning her family had figured out she was no longer in the Hamptons, but it did not matter. She and Maddy had stolen a few precious hours to go through some of the documents in the vault, and some of her grandfather’s journals and recordings of his personal impressions. Concerns and doubts he had noted about his children that he would never share publicly.

“I want an audit of the company’s finances and oversight. I want to know everything. Before play ball with Desmond’s mother, I need a full picture of exactly what I’m dealing with.”

Maddy nodded. “Jerrell’s father, and his older brother Roland, all of them are on Wall Street and they can arrange it. It’ll take a few weeks, maybe even months, but they’ll get it done.”

Her chest rocked as she anticipated having to go against so many forces at once— particularly in her own household— she agreed.

Now that her lawyers had access, they could get a clearer picture of its shape. She would be splitting her time between her family’s company offices, and the hospital, at least for the next few months.

“It’s crazy how my grandfather knew Desmond’s mother. Why did he trust her
