Telling Felicity that I was going to rehab was the hardest thing that I had ever done. But I had to do it if I was going to have a shot at winning her back. I needed to be sober so that I could focus on what I needed to do to get Jason out of her life for good.

“Okay, Mr. James. Do you have anything on you today? Any pills, weed, alcohol or other substances?” the woman doing my intake asked me while she searched through my bags.

“A bottle of Vicodin,” I told her. She nodded and then pulled out two more pill bottles and a bag of coke.

She shook her head like she knew that I was lying. I was sure that she had probably seen and heard it all before and knew all of the tricks to the trade. She took all of my drugs and walked into another room where she handed them over to someone else. She made me strip down to my boxers and follow her into the bathroom where she handed me a cup to piss in.

“Why do I have to be in my draws, though?” I asked her.

“It’s policy. We take extra precaution here to make sure you don’t try and fake your test. We’ve seen it all,” she explained while I emptied my bladder.

After pissing in the cup, she took the cup with her gloved hand and dipped a bunch of test strips in it to see what was in my system. My cheeks flushed red when I saw that I came back positive for every type of drug. She gave me a reassuring look that let me know that she wasn’t judging me at all. After all, this was a rehab center.

“Okay, now that we know what’s in your system, we know how to treat your detox process,” the woman, whose name tag read Star, told me.

She had me follow her as she showed me the grounds. The place was beautiful. It sat on a secluded part of Key West and we had the perfect view of the ocean. It was built like a five-star resort with swimming pools, a gym, a library and at least four kitchens that they kept fully stocked. We walked into my suite and I was amazed.

It was set up like a studio apartment. There was a full-sized bed, a sofa, television, kitchen table for two, a small kitchenette and a full bathroom. The walls were blank, but I was told that I could decorate the room any way that I wanted during my stay. She let me know that she was going to leave me to unpack and that the first group session was in two hours, before closing the door and leaving me to my thoughts.

“I guess I better get started,” I said to myself and put my clothes away.
