BOB TAYLOR FINISHED HIS FIRST WEEK OF WORK just before dark on Friday night. He had parked his delivery truck inside the Marco Island Seafood Companyâs secure chain link fenced lot and he was headed home in his personal truck from Marco to Goodland. A hunger pang struck and Bob realized that he hadnât any lunch except for six Lance peanut butter crackers and a Dr. Pepper. He was famished and he wanted to go out tonight and have a decent meal. TV dinners and cold-cut sandwiches hadnât cut it for the last four nights. It had, nonetheless, been an interesting week and he was settling in to this new line of work, but he had been instructed that it was time to pick up the pace in a more intriguing secret facet of his life.
Bob stopped in at Mollyâs Place first to see if Sam and Roger were already there. They were, and he took the time to have a beer and choke down a pickled sausage while he asked them if they were interested in riding up to the Gator Hook with him for a few hours. They were, and he told them heâs be back to pick them up as soon as he showered and put on some fresh clothes. He explained his smelled a little fishy.
After quickly showering, Bob dressed in a tropical print sports shirt and Levis. After donning a pair of white Nike walking shoes he was ready and went out the door. He hesitated on the small entry deck and spun around; he had forgotten something. He went back inside his apartment. He pulled up the right Levi pants leg and attached his concealed ankle holster and dropped his loaded Sig Sauer into it and closed the Velcro® retainer strap over the handle to hold his weapon firmly in place. Bob was right handed so he was wearing the pistol above his ankle on the right side of his lower right leg. It was, he thought, a little uncomfortable but he would get used to it. He also told himself, it wonât do me a damn bit of good if I ever need it and itâs here in a damned dresser drawer!
The Gator Hook Lounge was already busy when they arrived because a popular band was slated to perform Friday and Saturday nights. The trio managed to find an empty four top and glanced around for a waitress. Seeing Lindy was busy with a large noisy party Bob got another waitressâs attention.
âHi, guys. How are yâall tonight? Iâm Judy and I imagine your names are âThirsty.ââ
âWe sure are, Judy. Weâll take a pitcher of Bud to get started.â
Sam, took a long sip of his beer, and started the conversation. âI havenât heard much about Sharie Wilkerâs abduction and killing lately. Either in the paper or on television, the story doesnât seem newsworthy anymore or it seems to have lost its luster for the news media.â
Roger added, âLast I heard, from what the sheriff
