Why Worship and Prayer

True justice begins with our restored relationship and agreement with God in Christ. One of the primary ways that we connect with God is through worship and prayer. God always intended to bring about His purposes in agreement with humans through Christ. As we engage in night and day prayer for justice, our hearts come into greater agreement with Him, and we grow both in prayer and in doing His works of justice in the earth.

There are many reasons that we should engage in daily worship and prayer as followers of Christ. First is simply that prayer and worship is agreement with God, joining in with what He wants to do in the earth. Second is that in worship and prayer we can enjoy the nearness of God’s presence (see James 4:8). Third is that in the place of prayer and worship, angels and demons are moved, changing the spiritual atmosphere of the cities we are praying for (see Dan. 10:10-21). Fourth, God’s government is manifested and administrated through worship and prayer—it is the way He runs His kingdom forever (see Ps. 22:3). Finally, it is through worship and prayer that the Holy Spirit releases His power for the works of justice in and through His Church (see Joel 2:15, 28; Luke 24:49; Acts 1:8; Acts 4:29-31; Acts 13:1-2).

The night and day worship and prayer movement which God is raising up in the nations is itself a justice movement. Believers who have a vision for the kind of justice Jesus desires must fuel their labors of justice and compassion with worship and intercession. Not every person, nor every ministry, is called to 24/7 worship and prayer—but Jesus requires prayer and worship in His church. It is one of His premier strategies to establish justice.
