Chapter Seven

Eldan’s feet had barely touched the ground since he got his shoes back on. And he hadn’t even cast a hovering spell. After watching two of his cousins find their fated mates in the span of a single evening, it hadn’t seemed possible that lightning would strike three times. Or that it would electrify someone so completely opposite as Damisa.

Yet the more he dwelled on her, the more it seemed inevitable that she would be a match. As ordered as his life was, a little bit of pandemonium was probably just what he needed. Spontaneity had never been his strong suit but Damisa had it in spades.

She proved it every time he saw her, and never more so than when she had tipped him over into some slightly kinky outdoor shenanigans. He could barely think about it without getting hard. The scent of her hung about him like a richly welcome fog.

True, she had run off like a frightened bunny as soon as their tangle had ended, but that only seemed in keeping with how she lived her life. At least, so far as he could tell. Eldan was as certain of their bond as he was of his own skin, so he couldn’t help being elated, even if he had been rebuffed.

A woman like Damisa just needed a bit of wooing to get her back into his arms, that’s all. Anyone who runs like that obviously needs a little convincing. He had read something like that somewhere.

Having never been much of one for dating or romance, Eldan was on his way to seek some expert advice on the subject. That was always his way. When embarking on a new field of study, always find those who dominated the field.

A few brisk knocks on the door brought a disheveled-looking Dain peering through.

“What’s up?”

“I’d like to talk to you and Galwyn about…are you wearing a shirt?” His cousin shied even more behind the door at his question.

“Yeah, maybe. Can this wait?”

“Um, no. I’ve got news that is going to rock my entire clan.”

“Oh yeah?” The barely-dressed fae shot a look over his shoulder into the room of the inn behind him.

“I’ve found my mate.”

That got Dain’s attention. His eyes snapped back to examine his cousin. Eldan wasn’t one for practical jokes, but given his reputation for placing studious pursuits over carnal ones, Dain could be forgiven for double checking.

“Hang on.”

The door shut in Eldan’s face, and he tapped his toes as he listened to the giggling and shuffling from the other side. Clearly he had come to the right place, if not the right time. As if there ever was one. Since Dain and Galwyn had found each other, it seemed as though the first matched among the fae lords almost never came up for air.

When the door opened again, Dain’s shirt was inside out. Eldan elected to let that pass without comment.

“Come on in,” he said. “Tell me more about this match?”

They strolled into the sitting area, where Galwyn was shoving open the windows and tying her tousled hair back.
