ZION ADVENTURE COMPANY’S FAMILY ADVENTURE DAY

From March through November each year, Springdale, Utah-based Zion Adventure Company offers a Family Adventure Day for families with children ages 5 and up. The day is spent learning and applying the basics of technical canyoneering in one of Zion National Park’s many slot canyons.

The day includes instruction in knot tying, anchor placement, belaying, and rappelling. Participants complete up to four rappels during a daylong slot-canyon descent. The rappels range from 20 to 100 feet.

The outfitter provides all gear necessary for the trip. All you need to bring is food, water, and, as the company’s brochure puts it, “consensus”—that is, that this something all members of your family want to do.
