The nearby springs, from which this tiny settlement takes its name, were named after the governor of South Australia by John McDouall Stuart during his south–north crossing of Australia in 1862. The town’s size belies its historical importance as the first international refuelling stop for Qantas in 1935.

Daly Waters Pub Known as one of the great authentic Australian pubs with characters to match. The knickers donated by patrons and stapled to the beam above the bar have all been removed. Accommodation and meals are available with the menu including ‘bumnuts on toast’ and ‘ambuggers’. Stuart St; (08) 8975 9927.
