I startle awake. Groggy and with a slight headache, I sit up and stretch. My back pops, so I roll my neck and get a few more kinks worked out. I didn’t mean to fall asleep; now I have no idea how long he’s been gone.

The problem with the bunker in general is that there’s no sun, that natural keeper of the passage of time, and without it I always feel off. Since I’ve been kidnapped, it’s even worse. I don’t even know how long I’ve been gone.

Normally my roommates, my work duties, and the dining schedules all keep me oriented in time, but all of that is gone. Has it been days? Hours? I think it’s only been hours, but who knows? I turn the water on in the sink and splash some onto my face. Holding on to the edge of the cabinet, I stretch more and finally feel at least a little less out of it.

Great. Now what? I look around the room, and there’s a whole lot of nothing to do. I’ve already cleaned everything I can reach. So what now? The idea of how to introduce Bahr to the rest of the bunker flits in, but I pointedly ignore it.

I didn’t come up with any good solutions before, and I still don’t have a bright idea on that one. I pace the floor until I’m tired, then I sit on the bed until that gets old too. At last I’m lying on the cot, listening to the gentle swish of air being processed.

“It’s okay to like him,” I say, mostly to hear some sound besides the air moving. “He’s sexy and he needs me. He’s made that clear. He thinks I’m his treasure.”

Which is, I have to admit, sexy. I’ve always wanted a guy who would put me first, and there is no doubt in my mind Bahr would do that. I don’t think he would ever consider another before me. And he’s good looking.

Getting myself off has always been a good way to clear my head and focus. Except doing that when your roommate is barely more than an arm’s length away is awkward, to say the least.

I get to my feet, go to the door and press my ear to it. Silence. I glance around, but there’s nothing close to hand that I can move easily.
