Chapter Eleven

A knock tapped on the door. “Breakfast!” A cheery announcement.

Colt glanced toward the door. He’d just been walking into the sitting area, intent on grabbing his phone and seeing if it had survived the dip into the ocean, when he’d heard the knock.

“I’m starving,” Chelsea said from behind him.

He looked back at her. Fresh clothes had been stocked in the bedroom. Remy, striking again. The man seemed to plan for everything. She wore a pair of white capris, a silky blue, sleeveless top, and dainty sandals on her feet. Gorgeous. Good enough to eat—

Oh, yeah, I did. And I want to again and again—

Another tap on the door. “Leaving the tray outside. The champagne is chilled. Have a wonderful morning!”

Chelsea’s stomach chose that moment to give the cutest, lowest damn growl.

Her eyes widened in something like horror as she put her hand to her stomach. Then she laughed. Her nervous laugh that made him want to cross to her. Haul her into his arms. And never fucking let go.

“So, yes, I’m pretty much starving.” She hurried toward the door, moving to pass him. “I can’t remember the last time I ate.”

He snagged her wrist. “Let me make sure it’s safe. Because, baby, I didn’t order anything.” His finger slid along her pulse point. Felt the jump. He liked that he could make her pulse race. She sure made his thunder.

Colt let her go and moved to look through the peephole. He opened the door a few cautious inches. A man in the white coat and pants waited near the elevator. “I didn’t order anything,” Colt called to him.

The guy spun. Looked to be about eighteen. He flashed a nervous grin. “Ah. Sorry. It’s courtesy of your friend…” He looked down at the small pad in his hand. “Remy. Said to knock and loudly call out that the food was there.” His cheeks flushed. “He thought you might be busy.”

Remy strikes again.

“And congrats on your marriage!” he added quickly. The elevator doors opened with a ding. A fast wave from the guy. “Enjoy your day!”

He waited until the fellow had disappeared, then Colt wheeled the cart into the suite.

“We are going to owe Remy so much,” Chelsea announced as she hurried toward the rolling cart. “Talk about being a hero.”

Colt stopped searching the cart—searching it was second nature to him—and he looked up at her. “Did you just call Remy a hero?” Had she missed the part where he told her the jerk was an art thief?

She’d scooped up a strawberry. Held it right before her lips. Stopped before taking a bite. “Is this…wait, you’re searching the tray.” Alarm flashed on her face. “Do you think it’s not from Remy? Is it poison?” Her gaze darted longingly to the strawberry. “Please don’t be poison,” she murmured to it.

The phone on the hotel’s desk rang. “Don’t eat yet.” But he had a feeling he knew exactly who was calling. Colt sauntered to the phone. Not his phone—the hotel’s. He snatched it up on the second ring.
