O’mari

I hugged Majesty goodnight before making my way to the bar where Jada was. She was behind, while Marie cleaned and vibed to the slow jams that played throughout the empty club. The moment I was close enough, I could feel her breathing slow down like it always did whenever I invaded her space. Her eyes met mine, as I stared at her and licked my lips, even though she was dressed down in sweats. She had beauty that didn’t take much to achieve, like most women these days needed. Her skin was free of the makeup and mask she’d worn earlier, giving me full access to her natural beauty.

“I’m about to wait for you outside until you’re in your car, ma. Who's place we going to tonight? Yours or mine?” I asked her.

She shook her head. “No need for all that. Pat will make sure we’re good, and you can head to your place and I'll head to mine. We both could use the space,” she said dryly. Her eyes struggled to meet mine before they dropped down to the glass that she was wiping down.

“Where is this coming from? Prior to me even coming through tonight, you were all for us spending the night in and tomorrow together, since our schedules have both been busy. Talk to me.”

“It’s obvious why I want to change plans, O’Mari.”

“Nah, that is why I'm telling you to paint the damn picture instead of speaking in riddles, Jada. I can’t read your mind and I told you before the games are not what I do. Speak your peace and we can sort through it like two adults,” she looked at me stunned at how I was even speaking to her when she had been getting the chill side of me since we met. “I keep tellin’ you I'm not what you used to dealin’ with. The energy you give is what you’re gon’ get.”

“The club is off limits to you, O.”

“You don’t call me O, it’s either Mari or O’Mari,” I reminded her as her friend made a noise that caused us to both turn in her direction. She knocked over the glasses, quickly catching the two before they tipped off the counter. Eyes widening as she pushed a smile to her face.

“Let me give you two some privacy,” Marie said as she rushed through the doors behind the bar that led to the kitchen. We both refocused our attention back on one another.

“You forget that my good friends own this club? What you mean the club is off limits?”

“Mari you promised you’d never come on a night when I was dancing,” she said quietly as her eyes met mine. “You said you’d never show up unless I was handling drinks. But tonight, you were here for my set. Here in the building period when we both agreed on these nights you wouldn’t.”

“I forgot ma,” I admitted truthfully as my mind went back to the night where we had talked about me not showing up to the club when she did her sets.
