Watching him prepare breakfast was like watching someone else’s life on screen. Érōs had pulled me into his world, and I’d gotten so comfortable that I’d almost forgotten about my dilemma.

“Can I set the table?” I asked.

“No.”

I smirked but felt helpless as he moved around his huge state-of-the-art kitchen.

“I feel worthless sitting here when I could be helping.”

He turned around to look at me, rigid washboard abs and brown smooth skin covering a muscular body. Eyes half-closed, his gaze felt like a caress over my flesh.

“You’re doing everything I need you to do, Amara.”

“Which is?”

“Sit there and be beautiful.”

We stared at each other, and my heartbeat began to rise.

“Why do you say lovely things like that to me?”

He squinted at me—and even that was sexy on his gorgeous face. “Have you never had anyone say something so simple before?”

“No.”

The rise in his eyes told me he couldn’t believe it. He was speechless for a moment. But quickly, he turned back to the stove to shut it off as the steam rose. “If you knew the dreams I have, you’d understand why you’re doing everything I need you to do.”

“What are these dreams?”

“I’ll tell you later.”

I frowned. “Why not tell me now?”

“Because now is for you making my dreams come true by sitting there.”

A tingle of warmth trailed over my skin, and I blushed.

A few minutes passed, and he strolled to the table with two plates in hand; I rose and reached, he paused, and cocked his head to the side.

“Do I get to eat in your dreams?”

Laughter shot from his mouth, and he offered me a plate. Then his hand slipped along my face as he looked into my eyes. “Technically only I get to eat.” He winked and continued, “But I’ll let you get some nourishment this time.”

He pinched my cheeks, making me smile, and we sat.

“Do you mind praying with me?”

Unease slipped through me, and he must’ve seen the anxiousness on my face because he reiterated, “Just a few words will do.”

“I haven’t spoken to God in a while; I’m not sure if praying over food should be the first thing I say to Him.”

He stared at me, tapped my hands, and turned his upside down. I rested my fingers on his palm.

“There is no perfect prayer or a right time to speak to God. He is always willing to hear from you, no matter how long it’s been since He’s heard your voice.”

I nodded, and took a deep breath. “Okay.”

His gaze never left me as he began praying, and with our fingers connected, I felt pulled into that atmosphere, with him and God, as if I was an eavesdropper who wanted to speak but was afraid to.

Seconds passed then I entered the conversation, only repeating what Érōs said to be in a verbal agreement.

“In Jesus Christ’s name, amen.”

“Amen.”

My eyes fluttered open, and he was still staring at me. I smiled and felt more relaxed than I had felt in a while.

“Was that okay?” I asked.

“Perfect.” His lips spread into a grin.
