The Epic Heroes All Agree: Lead with Virtue

Ludwig Van Beethoven: Recommend virtue to your children; it alone, not money, can make them happy. I speak from experience.

Leonardo da Vinci: Do not count as riches anything that can be lost. Virtue is the true wealth and reward of its owner. It cannot be lost; it does not forsake us, unless life leaves us first. Earthly goods and material riches are always warily held; often their owner, on losing possession of them, is left duped and scorned.

The more I read of history and literature; the more I read the biographies of movers and shakers who “thought differently;” the more I read the Epic Poetry of the Great Books and Classics, the more apparent the simple maxim “The epic heroes all agree” becomes. And so I set out to author “The Hero’s Odyssey Mythology Code of Honor,” covering a hundred or so different precepts the Greats all agreed upon, beginning with the Golden Rule—“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” and it’s mathematical parallel exalted by nature, classical artists, and Steve Jobs alike—the Golden Ratio known as phi. For just as in my artificial retina dissertation, the greatest innovations happen where art, science, and humanity interact.
