The morning after my wedding, I woke up feeling sore in all the right places, content, and yet, somehow, confused. I cracked my eyes open and found myself meeting Mathias’s earnest gaze. “Good morning, my queen,” he said with a smile. “How are you feeling?”

“A little achy,” I admitted. “It’s strange.”

Due to my powers, my wounds always healed quickly. I could get hurt, of course, but my injuries closed shortly after I got them. I wondered if this was a side-effect of Thrandur having broken the curse.

Mathias scowled. “Should we be concerned?”

“Concerned about what?” Thrandur asked. I turned, only to see him and Halvar approach the bed. Halvar was carrying a tray laden with foodstuffs. I got up on my haunches and arched a brow. “Did you just chase off my maids?”

“We want to hoard your attention for a little while longer,” Halvar replied. He set the tray down and knelt on the bed, sweeping his hand over my naked skin. “Seriously, though, are you all right? Were we too rough?”

His touch made tongues of fire lick over my skin, chasing away the slight ache. “Looks like that’s a no,” I said with a chuckle. “Maybe I just wanted to feel the pain a little longer.”

I hadn’t realized it until the discomfort was gone. I was a practical woman and I’d never deemed myself someone who enjoyed pain. But my lovers were quickly teaching me a lot of things about myself that I hadn’t known were true. My body craved more of the addicting sensations they’d stirred inside me the night before.

Thrandur’s eyes flashed silver as he took in the meaning of my words. “Be careful, Dahud. We’re trying to be doting husbands this morning, but you’re making it very difficult.”

I smiled wickedly at him. “I didn’t realize my idea of doting differed so much from yours.”
