6 - Another Offense That Uses a Wing to Screen for a Post

This offense sets up in a box set with the two wings starting out on the block and the posts at the elbow. If you choose to run it from a traditional 3 out, 2 down set, the posts will have to move up to the elbows and the wings break down to the block. This is important, as you will see in Diagram 6.1 because the wings need to back screen for the post.

6.1

1 dribbles below the right free throw line extended. We want him below the free throw line extended as in this offense, it gives us the best angle for a possible post pass.

2 back screens for 5 looking to post up on the ball side block. Depending on how well 2 sets a screen and whether or not 3 and 4’s defender recognizes 5’s cut, we will get lay-up opportunities in just this first option of the offense.

In order to help occupy 4’s defender (as well as continuing the next phase of the offense), 4 down screens for 2 who pops to the top of the key.

If 1 cannot hit 5 on the cut, he passes to 2 coming off of 4’s screen. 2 should catch the ball at the top of the key, outside the three point line.
