For a minute, Myla had me about to lose it. Eventually, I calmed down. She’s a smart and resourceful woman and I knew she wouldn’t do anything to put herself or our babies at risk. Braelynn said that she had spoken with her, but Myla didn’t let on where she was headed; my mother was of no help either. When I slipped up and told her we were having twins, she hung up in my face.

A text came through from Myla telling me that she was okay, and when I replied back to her, she left me on read. Suddenly, I remembered something that I should have thought of hours ago. The last time I was in Seattle, she shared her location with me before she left to run an errand. I went to her text and when I saw where she was, I felt dumb as hell. Throwing on a hoodie and grabbing my car keys, I left my apartment. Once my car connected to the Bluetooth, I called my mom for the second time.

“You’re lucky I’m even answering your call! How could you keep such a big secret from me?”

“How could you not tell me that Myla was at your house when you heard how worried I was?”

“Don’t change the subject!”

“My bad, Ma. We were trying to surprise everybody.”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah. She already told me and I agreed not to say anything, but y’all owe me big time for keeping this secret.”

“Thanks, Ma. Now, back to my question.”

“You know what? My boss is calling me. I gotta go. Love you, son.” She hung up on me again.

Ten minutes later, I walked into my parent’s house. It was quiet but I could smell lasagna. Checking the kitchen, I saw that no one was there. The family room was empty as well. Just as I was thinking she may have left, I peeked inside my old room and there she was.

For about five minutes, I leaned on the doorframe and watched her sleep. She looked so peaceful and unbothered. Instead of waking her, I kicked off my shoes and got in bed with her. I positioned myself behind her on the full-sized bed and pulled her close, resting my hand on her stomach. I sighed with relief when she snuggled up next to me.

I heard Myla’s voice and my eyes popped open. It felt like only five minutes had passed, but it had to be more. Only a bit of light peeked through the curtains.

“Why are you here?” she repeated.

We were lying face-to-face, with our noses almost touching.

“When I figured out where you were, I came to get you.”

“What if I don’t want to leave with you?”

“You can stay but my babies are coming with me.”

She laughed and pushed my shoulder.

“They can’t go without me.”

“I guess you gotta bring your ass, too. Baby, I don’t want to fight anymore.”

“Why’d you lie?”

“Baby, I really had forgotten that Corette had ever been there.”

I went on to explain to her why Corette had ever been in our apartment and assured her that we did not have sex there.
