An interesting and brief article about duelling appeared in the Dublin Intelligence on Saturday, 26 May 1711:

The title of the Earl of Bath is extinct by the death of his Lordship, and the estate goes to 3 female heirs. By the act of passing against Duelling we hear the penalty of it is, that it incapacitates any one that does it, from having the benefit of the Laws of the Realm. The Coroner’s inquest that sat on the body of Sir Chomley Dering, brought it in wilful murder, notwithstanding Sir Chomley forgave Mr Thornhill before he expired, and declared he was the cause of his own death.
