At the next practice, a note on the gym door told the girls to meet in the weight room. Once everyone arrived, Coach said, “We’re here because you all need to build up your muscles. Stepping and jogging will get easier with some strength training. From now on, we’ll either run or lift weights for part of each practice.”

“Great,” said Aniyah sarcastically as she started weighted leg lifts.

What she didn’t say was that she wished she could rewind time back to her family’s Labor Day party and take back her promise to Stacy. Stepping was one thing, but now she had running and strength training on top of it?

What did I get myself into? Aniyah worried.
