CHAPTER 7

Following the sales clerk through the boutique, Abigail’s gaze darted from one stunning evening gown to another, wishing Gray and Remi weren’t right on her heels because she wanted to look at the price tags. This was the appointment Remi had made on the phone yesterday when they’d arrived at the hotel. She didn’t want to pick a very expensive dress since they were paying for it—not that they couldn’t afford it, but she didn’t want them to think she was greedy. It was kind of like going to dinner on a first or second date and not picking the most expensive item on the menu.

She’d woken up this morning just as she’d finally gone to sleep last night—alone. After the show, the men had instructed Edward to drive down the Vegas strip to let Abby get the full experience, before heading back to their hotel. They took her back to the suite, escorted her to the master bedroom door, took turns giving her a kiss goodnight, then sent her to bed. It had been far less than she’d expected. While she’d been anxious about sharing a bed with them, she realized as she settled under the covers she would have preferred that to sleeping alone after all the attention they’d given her. It’d been an anti-climactic ending to a wonderful day, and had left her wanting . . . needing that connection to them. Had they changed their minds about a relationship with her? Now that she’d had a brief taste of the Mann brothers, she wasn’t sure she could go back to being just their secretary.

They passed a display case filled with jewelry, and she highly doubted any of the large, brilliant stones were cubic zirconia. The shop was located in one of the high-end hotel/casinos, and they’d had to be buzzed through a secure door with a guard standing by. After being told about the appointment this morning over breakfast, she’d expected she’d go alone—what guy wants to go dress shopping with a woman? But they’d told her they wanted to help her find the right gown. She guessed they didn’t want her to embarrass them by picking something they would consider dreadful. Although, there didn’t appear to be any ugly dresses in the place.

The pretty, size-two blonde named Penelope opened a door toward the back of the shop and ushered her three clients inside. Abigail glanced around in awe and confusion. The room was beautifully decorated with plush carpet, a couch, two wingback chairs, a chaise lounge, several cherry wood tables, and elegant wallpaper. Above it all, a huge, chandelier hung from the vaulted ceiling—and she swore it was Waterford. The entire setup could be a living room in a rich person’s mansion instead of an area in a boutique. On a buffet, there was a bottle of champagne chilling in an ice bucket, three crystal flutes, a cheese and fruit platter, and chocolate covered strawberries. The only thing that looked out of place was the rack of dresses in varying lengths and colors along one wall.
