TECHNIQUE 1 – Cultivate Relationships That Support You
When it comes to treating depression yourself having support from others can play a huge role in your life. If you attempt to deal with depression on your own you find it very hard to maintain the right kind of perspective and also the right kind of effort in order to beat this illness.
However when suffering from depression many people find the thought of turning to others to help them can all seem very overwhelming. In many cases they feel ashamed to be telling someone that they suffer from depression, yet they should also remember that those who love them care about them and are willing to help them.
When cultivating such relationships make sure that you choose family or friends that you know you can trust. Even though you don’t feel like being with others it is important that you do remain in contact as they can help you with feeling less depressed. If you still aren’t able to speak to family or friends about what is happening then join a local support group instead. By joining such a group you are helping to reduce how isolated you are feeling and also it offers you a way to help focus on dealing with the illness.
TECHNIQUE 2 – Get Yourself A Pet
Okay talking to others can help you to cope with depression better, but having a pet can improve the situation even more. They not only provide you with love unconditionally they also help you to feel less isolated. Furthermore owning a cat or dog means that you have to care about something else and so it helps to provide you with a sense of being needed. In fact studies have been carried out that clearly show that people who own pets not only suffer from stress less but also from depression as well.
TECHNIQUE 3 – Challenge Those Negative Thoughts
This form of illness will put a negative spin on everything that you do and think, including the way in which you see yourself. However just thinking positively won’t help you to break out of this cycle instead you need to be working on replacing any negative thoughts you have at this time with more balanced ones.
There are certain things that you can do which can help you to challenge any negative thoughts you are having. Below we take a look at what these are.
The first thing you should do is to actually be asking yourself would you say what you are thinking about yourself to someone else.
