Claire

Leo kept his distance, but I could feel his eyes following me wherever I went. The time I spent with him awoke something within me. His gaze set my body on fire. I yearned for him. My dreams overflowed with his touch, leaving me waking wet and wanting. Every night I had to pump left me squirming, hoping he would come and take me as he did that first night.

My job was to take care of Priscilla. To keep Leo’s home clean and cook his meals. No matter how much that sounded like a wife — it wasn’t. Frankly, the whole process was a gift. Nothing I did deserved the millions which he paid, even if almost all of that was payment to deal with the debt. Anything more would be taking advantage of the situation. Setting myself up for agony.

Wanting him left me in knots. Whenever he cared for Priscilla, my heart melted, but seeing how he treated Ben just the same as his own child, I lost all sense. Longing never felt like this before. He consumed my mind. Spending the next several months with him would be torture. I had to find some way to shove these feelings aside, or they would drown me.

Obviously, my body longed for touch. I missed the idea of who my husband was, and though Jimmy betrayed me — ruining the memory of him in so many ways, I lost some sense of self along with him. Caught in a cycle of care, I needed to find a way to relieve myself of the tension rising up inside me.

Also, while it sounded strange, the first step would be getting an STD test. My husband cheated on me. I had no way of knowing if Stella was his only time, and even if she were, I had no way of knowing my husband was the only one she committed adultery with either. Honestly, it should have been my first step, but lost in the debt and transition, I put myself at risk by burying the lead.

Locating a clinic nearby, I scheduled an appointment online and went with the two children in tow. As the nurses fussed over Ben and Priscilla, another drew my blood. Priscilla babbled happily. Ben glowered. Both received cooing in response.

“Your twins are so cute!” one of the nurses said, and I didn’t bother to correct her.

Another laughed. “Their personalities are so different!”

“But this one definitely looks like her mommy!” the first proclaimed, tickling Priscilla’s toes.

Arriving back, I changed and fed the two babies before setting them down to play in the living room set up as I started on dinner. Leo arrived a bit late, so dinner was ready and on the table when he came in the door. Things settled, and as he sat down, his intense gaze fell on me.

“How was your day?”

I smiled, focusing on helping as Priscilla and Ben both used their spoons to eat the pureed peas. “Priscilla’s getting closer to crawling. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s getting everywhere before the weekend.
