CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

PAST

The automated email conformation form Amazon’s F.B.A. system arrived on my iMac and I clicked it with the same level of excitement I reserved for all of Amazon’s automated conformation emails, none what so ever. But after clicking I was far more exited, it announced the arrival and checking into the system of 7,000 new items.

Relief swept over me. Wow, Angel had really done her job. We were desperately short of many items in F.B.A. and we were out of stock of many more. The situation was close to getting critical, if an out of stock item remained out of stock for over a month, it would ‘fall off the system’. In other words, it would vanish completely from the system, we would have no way of knowing we needed the item, no way of knowing we had every stocked the item in the first place. You cannot run your own stock control for F.B.A. it is an impossibility, you have to rely on the F.B.A. system and that system deleted a product if it was out of stock more than 30 days.

In great relief I clicked on the inventory of items that Angel had sent, Diamond Whitening Toothpaste, Cherry Flavored Toothpaste, Water Melon Flavored Toothpaste, Anti-Paradont Toothpaste…………… Toothpaste…………..Toothpaste………….Toothpaste.

Anger was rushing through my veins.

Angel had sent 7,000 tubes of toothpaste to F.B.A. - AND NOTHING ELSE?!?!

There had to be a system error at F.B.A. Of course, we had toothpaste at F.B.A., but it was just about the slowest selling of all the products we had there and we were out of stock of fast selling high profit items like Snail Mucin Anti-Ageing Face Cream; an item we made $10 clear profit on and sold 50 a week. At least that’s how many we would sell – if they were in stock!! Which they weren’t, because Angel had not sent any!

Too shocked to allow myself to actually talk to Angel, in case the Amazon system didn't have an error and she really had sent $14,000 of toothpaste to F.B.A.I decided to message her on iMessage.

“Did you really send 14,000 tubes of toothpaste to F.B.A.??”

Almost instantly I got a reply back.

‘Yes.’ Smiley face emoji.

“WHY IN THE NAME OF GOD WOULD YOU SPEND $14,000 DOLLARS ON TOOTHPASTE!!” No emoji.

I turned off my phone not wanting to hear her response. I was pacing back and forth. She really had sent $14,000 of toothpaste to F.B.A. I was so mad almost hyperventilated as I paced back and forth, trying to stay calm.

OMG $14,000 of toothpaste - 7,000 tubes - we only sold 100 tubes of toothpaste A MONTH total, it would take SIX YEARS to sell the 7,000 tubes. I was beginning to sweat profusely. I could feel the heat on my face and I didn’t need a mirror to know my face was red.

My brain did a quick calculation.

We made $1 on each tube - taking the cost of money into account, taking all other costs into account we would basically break even.
