Chapter Eight

Leaving Conner alone in the guest room had to be one of the hardest things Grant had ever done. But he did it because he felt on the verge of something he’d been looking for his whole life. Tonight had been like ripping open his chest and offering up his heart. He’d been terrified that Conner would be bored, or make snarky comments, but he hadn’t. He’d genuinely loved playing the game and actually encouraged Grant to do something with his creation. Grant realized that he’d expected Conner to behave the way his family had. When he thought about it now, he realized Conner would never do something like that to him, because Conner wasn’t that kind of person.

Fuck, he’d even cried in front of Conner without feeling utterly ashamed. In a way, he’d felt almost relieved. Having just one other person know him, really deep down know him, healed a lot of broken-hearted memories.

After brushing his teeth, Grant stripped down and climbed into bed.

“Goodnight, Conner.”

“Goodnight, Grant.”

Since the rooms weren’t that far apart, Grant could hear him without Conner having to shout. “Are you touching yourself?” Grant lifted his head, waiting to hear the answer.

“You know, we could do this in the same room.” Conner stood in the doorway of Grant’s bedroom, naked, his cock in hand.

“That might be a little too tempting.”

“I won’t come any closer than this.”

After a moment’s hesitation, Grant kicked off the covers so Conner could see him too. The lamplight from outside turned the room milky, giving just enough details to make things deliciously sexy.

“I’ve been closed off for a really long time.” Conner bit his bottom lip as he tightened his fist and returned to his slow, even strokes. “But you opened me up.”

Grant wanted to speak, to tell Conner he felt the same about him, but the words just wouldn’t come.

“You made me know that I’m worth more than just a one and done.”

Breathlessly, Grant said, “You are.”

“So are you.” Conner added his other hand so Grant did too. “You can be anything you want. You can do anything you want. And no matter what you choose to do, I will always, always support you.”

“Same here.” Grant had never done anything remotely like this. Compliments and jacking.
