TWELVE

Trust was a small word with a strong impact. Without trust, strong relationships couldn’t form. It was a logical assumption, and from my standpoint, I wasn’t all that sure the Draven clan trusted me anymore.

Over the week, I continued my training with a closed-off Thaddeus, conditioning my body and honing my reflexes in the gym without Blaise, and practiced my powers to the fullest extent I could while being cooped up in the manor alone most of the time. They kept leaving for hunts without me, and nobody would tell me why.

Tomorrow was the day shit would hit the fan, and unease was filling my veins like cement. The Order of the Void could very well sentence me to obliteration if they didn’t like me. Instead of spending time with me, the vampires insisted they had to go hunt some fucking abandoned or maybe it was something to do with the Crimson Demon nobody would tell me about.

Blaise had kept avoiding me, and it hurt because I’d thought we’d shared something special that day—or maybe that was what he wanted all along. Blaise didn’t scream fuck boy to me, but perhaps I’d judged him wrong. Kai went back to avoiding me after opening up about his past, and Thaddeus wouldn’t talk or look at me unless he had to. They didn’t even eat meals the same time as I did anymore.

My mood plummeted into a more bottomless abyss than it already was. When the guys were keeping me distracted, it was easy to not dwell on my human life. That wasn’t the case anymore.

“We’re heading out, Lilith,” Thaddeus told me from my doorway.

I raised a brow and sat up in bed, the comforter sliding off my upper body. “You’re actually telling me before you leave?”

His lips thinned into a line. “Tomorrow’s the full moon. Polish all your skills because tomorrow you must demonstrate them.”

Rolling my eyes, I sighed. “I know. I’ve been practicing. You can go now.”

Blaise appeared next to him, and my traitor heart thumped. The bastard noticed and smirked at me.

I tore my gaze away. “Go do whatever it is you’ve been doing.”

Kai stood beside them with his brows knitted. “Not going to ask what we’re hunting?”

“Would you tell me if I asked?”

“Doesn’t matter since you’re not coming,” Thaddeus answered for them, and the other two sighed.

My throat tightened. “Well, go on. Evil to obliterate, people to save...Yada yada yada!”

They shared a cautious look.

“I’m going to practice my skills. Don’t fucking worry,” I said in a huff.

They seemed to pick and choose when they wanted to be concerned about me, and it pissed me off. I narrowed my glare at Thaddeus, who nodded and left the room. Irritation rose over my skin as Blaise and Kai hesitated.

“We’ll tell you everything soon,” Kai murmured before they zipped out of the room.

Yeah right.

The front door shut, and I bolted out of bed to the window in time to see the blur of their bodies rush away as they used their vampire speed to break off into the forest.
