"Shit, lady."

She didn't turn around, but I could hear her quick inhale of a breath, and the little skitter of her heart gave away that she knew who was behind her.

"If that's what you're running from, yeah… Not crossing a dragon. Sorry."

He held up his hands. The bartender was smart enough to nearly run in the other direction.

"How did you find me?" she asked. Aurora barely turned her face to me.

The entire bar was quiet, and all eyes were on me. Goddess, this was irritating. I took the open seat next to my beautiful and confusing mate.

I wouldn't speak, not yet. I waited for the sounds of the stones hitting of the games the humans played. I waited for the thuds of the knives as they sank into the boards. All the sounds telling me these pets were back to what they'd been doing before I'd arrived.

Irritation from Riki leading me here the moment I'd entered the dome fought with the need I had for her.

The ring of her laughter made it all fade away.

"Oh, for goddess sake. Of course you're here. I'm sure it was that stupid hound. You leave me alone and desperate in my room just to show up here?"

I sniffed the glass that was in front of her. My nose curled up in its own accord.

"I left you alone and safe while I took care of issues beyond the colonies. This? Why did you feel the need for these human drinks?"

She turned toward me, and I reached for her as she nearly toppled.

"I need something. Do you actually think my father will accept your, well, what was it? A Business proposal? I already have one of those, thank you very much."

I could feel her pulse under the grip of my hand on her arm. Her heart stuttered at my touch, and yet her words were anything but happy.

"A business proposal? I have offered no such thing. You are my mate. Your father's blessing is merely a formality for you and a courtesy we've always given to humans. I couldn't care less if he approves or not. I only care about one opinion on the matter."

She gave a little huff.

"Did that stupid hound of yours steal my cat? Where did he go?"

She pushed me aside and tried to stand.

"What did you drink, Aurora?"

She stumbled.

"Why? Are you going to take my fun away too?"

I liked her feisty and had waited for that complacent facade to fall away. I should have known getting her away from her father would be all she needed.

I wanted her to be her true self, although I would have preferred that she did that in a safe place rather than here in a bar. Perhaps it was the drive to find me, and she just hadn't accepted it yet.

The need for me would not diminish, but I'd prefer her to actually want me. Right now, she was convinced she was trying to get away from me, albeit poorly.

"I am not taking your fun. I am wondering why you are out on such a night.
