Chapter Twelve

We sat around for a while, brainstorming about getting my dragon out, but since neither of them had been in my position, they lacked the ability to offer much more than moral support. And at this point, my Sunday was already so confusing, all I wanted was a nap. A long, long nap, preferably one where I didn’t wake up until graduation.

“Guys, I think we need to call it for this afternoon. I’m just glad I got to spend time with you, but I’m going to go home and sleep.”

Benji gave me the cutest pout I’d ever seen on a guy with enough sexy to have his own TV series about just being hot. “We could all take a nap here?”

Temptation soared, but I was afraid napping wouldn’t happen. “I would love to, but, and don’t take this wrong, I don’t think I’d be able to sleep with you two, yet. You’re overstimulating.”

Walden’s chuckle made it worse. “AJ, you sure? Tomorrow, we’ll all be busy with classes again, and we really need to work on getting your dragon out.”

I was that kind of tired, where every nerve felt stretched thin and I wanted to cry. And I wasn’t ready to let my mates see whiny AJ. She’d never been attractive, and I preferred to take her back to the room and try to sleep her away. Still, I didn’t want to waste any time with Benji and Walden.

What if my father did manage to keep us apart?

The idea was more than my already overwrought brain could handle. Still… “How about I go back and rest for a couple of hours then come here again and we can reconvene? You’re right. I need to get my dragon out, but in my current frame of mind, I think that’s not happening. Don’t be hurt.” Their faces showed emotions of doubt and a little sadness. “I want to be with you both more than I want to breathe, but I need just a short nap okay?”

Their presence was wonderful but also massively overstimulating. And between Dad’s threats, Headmistress’ story, and the sudden need to wake the dragon who’d been sleeping inside me right away, I was ready to run screaming through the halls.

Benji leaned in and placed a soft kiss on my cheek. “Whatever is best for you, mate. Can we walk you back?”

I shook my head. “I just need to be alone. Is that okay?”

Walden kissed my other cheek. “Well, not happy about it, but we can’t be with you every moment of every day, so it will have to be okay.”

I made it halfway back to my room before the tears started and I turned and raced back through the stone tunnels to where my mates were. I was so tired, and confused, and I felt very funny. My stomach churned, my ears rang, and my throat was sore. I tried to slow my steps because if I had a cold or something coming on, I didn’t want them to
