They sat together, cuddling together, laughing at some of the acting and recognizing a few of the outdated phrases, outfits, or items on the show that aired on television long ago. As he went to top off their glasses of wine in-between episodes, she hesitated and smiled apologetically.
âItâs getting late, and I am going to have to go. I work tomorrow and I need to be okay driving home.â
âYou could stay and relax here with me a little while longer,â he offered quietly.
âI donât think so.â
âYou know I would never hurt you or wrong you.â
âThis is the second date,â she said in a flustered manner â but only because the offer to stay longer was so very tempting right now.
Cuddling at his side, enjoying every moment, safe, and feeling almost languid in contentment⦠it was hard to distance herself from him, when all she wanted to do was close her eyes and fall asleep in his arms. It didnât matter if it was the couch or what number date this was â just being there, at his side, felt better than anything she could have imagined.
She felt like she was home.
âI should go,â she repeated, getting to her feet and hearing Simba meow in protest from where heâd been sleeping in her lap.

Nervously, she looked at him and hesitated, feeling her pulse thrum at his words. Just as she opened her mouth to protest, he spoke again.
âIâm still coming over for dinner tomorrow night⦠right?â
âYes.â
âThen if you arenât ready â the kiss can wait another evening.â
She stood there, hesitating and unsure what to say, because she knew he was tossing those words out there to see if she would âbiteâ and reeling back to give her space if she needed it.
âIâm interested,â she whispered, meeting his eyes, âbut I guess Iâm still trying to see what this is between us â and where it fits into what I thought a relationship was supposed to be. None of it makes sense in my brain, and I guess that is whatâs throwing me off so much.â
âWhat do you mean?â
âArenât relationships supposed to have⦠arguing?â she asked hesitantly. âI mean, itâs just strange to me because we havenât fought yet, and I remember my parents fighting when I was younger. Even the guys I dated in high school â I ended up fighting or
