This sounds like an odd method of memory jogging, but it often works. Say you have to take some items with you when you are due to leave the house. Leave those items on the floor immediately in front of the door by which you will leave the house. You will then definitely remember them.

In the same way:

• If you need to leave a cleaning product on for a certain amount of time before rinsing or flushing, leave an object out where you will see it and be reminded of the task.

• If you need to get the laundry off the line before leaving the house, leave a curtain half-closed so that your eye will be drawn to the window and remind you.

• If you need to add an ingredient to a dish half-way through cooking time, leave the ingredient near to the stove (as well as setting an alarm). This also works if you have to start cooking different dishes at different times – for example, if you need to cook vegetables to go with a main dish.

• If you need to take medication before a meal, put the dose on the table by your place setting.

• If you need to remember to post something – a birthday card, for example – leave it next to your house keys or handbag or whatever you take with you when you leave the house.
