ell, it was good finally meeting you, Yesinia. My daughter spoke highly of you, but I wanted to see for myself.” Ross’ grandmother grabbed Sin’s hand and rubbed it lovingly. They had just finished eating a delicious home cooked meal and were now seated in her living room. Ross was ready to go but his grandmother was too happy to see him, and he didn’t want to hurt her feelings. They were meeting her sisters at the hookah bar, and he was ready to head out.

“It was good meeting you as well.” Sin smiled.

She and Ross had been in New Orleans for two days, and it was her first time meeting his grandmother. Instead of renting a room on the Northshore, they ended up staying at the house that she shared with Grayson. Sin thought that she was gonna be sad when they entered but she felt the opposite. She enjoyed showing Ross pictures and telling him stories about Grayson. It almost felt like she was introducing them and that gave her a sense of comfort. She and Ross had even gone to the other house to check on things, as well as spend some time with her father. She regretted letting him meet Essie, but it was too late for all that. He laughed the entire time they chilled with her sisters. Ross smoked so much with them that Sin had to drive their rental car back to the house.

“Come on baby. I’m full and sleepy.” Ross stood up and walked over to his grandmother, preparing to hug her goodbye. He was full of life, but he couldn’t let his granny know that he had other plans.

“Wait a minute Fetty. I’ve been wanting to talk to you about a few things.” Concern was written all over his grandmother’s face and he wondered what was up. He cringed when she called him the nickname that he’d had since he was a child because Sin didn’t know him as Fetty.

“You good grandma. What’s up?”

“I’m okay but I can’t say the same about your cousins. Jon B went and got himself in some more bullshit, and Que can’t seem to stay out of jail. Rob is still putting his hands on that girl and…”

“Grandma wait. Just relax and take a deep breath.”

“These kids are gonna send me to my grave before the good Lord is ready for me. I wish your grandpa was still here. He knew how to deal with all this mess.”

“None of that is your mess to fix though. Them niggas are grown. You gon’ worry yourself to death, and they gon’ still be doing the same thing. Grandpa didn’t let nobody stress him out and you shouldn’t either.”

“I know baby, but you know how much I worry about y’all. You’re the only one who followed in your grandpa’s footsteps. I guess that’s why you were his favorite. He would have loved Yesinia, just because you chose her.”

Ross talked about his grandfather a lot and he always spoke highly of him.
