"Please go away." Harper choked out between deep breaths.

I briefly glanced at Yi'ara. She wasn't concerned about Harper. Either this was something that happened before, or Yi'ara knew Harper so well, she wasn't surprised by what happened. Regardless, I would defer to Yi'ara. I held back my questions because now wasn’t the time to ask Harper who had caused this pain and hurt her. I couldn't do anything about the past. The most important thing I could do right now was to reassure her I wanted her. We all wanted her… Needed her.

I wasn’t sure what caused her reaction from our interaction, but she needed to know how important she was to us. “My fated one, understand that when I say you are the most important thing to our entire pod, I was in no way exaggerating that.”

Harper’s gaze locked with mine. “I saw the look on your face. The idea of going to that room… it wasn't something you wanted.”

“That is true. The idea of taking you to the bonding cube is something that I don’t want to do. Nor do Ushko or Vorti, but not for the reason you think.” I held my hand out to her. I hoped she would take it so she could feel how earnest I was. “The bonding cube feels artificial. Elixirs are there to help you relax and help create the bond when it may not be as strong. The three of us have already agreed to wait as long as you need to feel comfortable because we want this to be genuine. You had no choice about coming to our planet or going through the Planetary Mating Program. As for having the three of us as your mates, you didn’t get a choice about that either. Yes, you accepted us, but the stars are the ones who decided that we were perfect for each other. Taking all of that into account, all three of us agreed we would move at your pace. We don’t care about Torvi or the representatives. If you need years to make a full bond with us, then we will wait.”

The moment her hand touched mine, my heart swelled. I hoped she would move closer, but she didn’t. Instead, she asked me a question. “If that's true, then why did Ushko suggest it?”

I felt my frustration swell up a little, but I tamped it back down. This situation called for a calm mind, and getting frustrated with Ushko for his tactless ways wouldn’t do anything to help. So I let him answer for himself.

Ushko came next to me and knelt. “I wanted to show you another part of our society and culture.” Then his voice came through our mind link. I’m so very sorry, my little human. I didn’t think about how it would sound to you. Instead, all I was thinking about how it would be a good cover so that I could sneak off to the dark site to fix your communicator I disabled.

He let out a heavy sigh.
