My mood had soured earlier when I received that call from my uncle. My dad had showed up to his house, begging for help. He was so strung out now. Him and Regina. I made it known if anyone on the streets helped them, they would be stinking in the river the next day. Zavi was the one who shot that nigga, but now he was feeling some type of way seeing his brother like that. Made him really want to take him out of his misery.

I wasn’t bothered and I guess that was what bothered my mama. It was the holiday and they were walking around with no jackets and no shoes on their feet, but I didn’t give a fuck because he kept my mama away from me for years. Had me thinking she was dead and I was supposed to show them grace? Fuck no. He didn't think about me all those years. Had me looking up to Regina’s ass as a mother figure and she had a hand with my mother being away. I had so much hate in my heart for them. How could I forgive that?

Pushing that to the side, I tried to focus on having fun in the snow. Tenaia was smiling real big and that’s all I wanted. She had learned to cope with her father’s demise and I helped her along the way. We had our own little family and I couldn’t wait to expand.

“What the…”

My thoughts quickly vanished when I was hit across the face with a snowball. Tenaia took off running, giggling while the others laughed. We had turned in our sleds and skis after two hours and were now about to grab some lunch.

“Now when I bury your ass in all this snow, I don’t want to hear no shit, Naia!” I called after her ass, wiping my face.

“I’m sorrrry,” she squealed from afar. “I had to.”

In my pocket, my phone rang. It was Jada. It wasn't Facetime so I could see my daughter so I knew it was something serious. I fell back a little as the others continued to the golf carts.

“Everything good?” I asked.

“Um… your father is here at my house. I don’t know how he found out where I lived, but he is here. Not inside. He’s um… sitting on my porch. It’s cold, son,” she rambled.

I pinched the bridge of my nose. Zachari was too damn close to my daughter and I was miles away. I could call some niggas and they would be there to throw his ass back where he came from. My mama talked me out of having security at her house and I should have gone with my gut to have them on post when she had Zionna.

“Where’s my daughter?” I asked through clenched teeth. I wasn’t trying to alert Tenaia. She looked back and I shot my eyes down to the white ground.

“In my room asleep,” she answered.

“Tell him to leave. Where is Regina? She can’t be far. If they’re trying to pull a stunt… I’ll kill them.
