The Bold, Young Servant Girl

2 Kings 5:1–16

Once, soldiers from the country of Aram snuck into Israel. The soldiers took things that didn’t belong to them. They even stole some of the people living there!

One young Israelite girl was snatched by the soldiers. She became a servant in Aram. She worked in the house of a man named Naaman, taking care of Naaman’s wife.

Naaman was a great warrior in Aram. He won lots of battles, which made the king of Aram happy. But Naaman had a problem. The mighty fighter had a disease called leprosy. Leprosy caused sores all over Naaman’s body. Ouch! Painful scabs covered his arms and legs.

The servant girl from Israel saw the sores and wanted to help Naaman. She knew God could heal him.

Even though she was far from home and missed her family, she remembered that her family served God and worshipped him. She also remembered Elisha, God’s prophet in Israel.

One day, the servant girl spoke boldly. She told Naaman’s wife that Naaman should go see the prophet Elisha. “He will cure my master of leprosy,” the girl said.
