Minutes later, I pulled myself to my feet, holding out a hand to the goddess on the couch. "Come on, we have a lot of time until morning, and I'd see what it's like to kiss someone on a proper bed." I winked. "Besides, you still owe me."

Alice and I remained friends and lovers for decades, though given that we never lived in the same city, we couldn't see each other as often as we would have liked. In the 1960s, she became a moderately famous author under a pen name, her works dealing with female sexuality and non-traditional relationships inspiring many. Eventually, she found a lovely woman to share her life with, and as time passed, became a leader in the LGBTQIA+ community.

For some, there is only a single 'Soul mate,' a person who completes them. That wasn't true for me. It's not that I didn't love- Alice was one of the great loves of my life, but there were other people, men and women both, just as important. I don't regret a single day, although I wouldn't mind reliving a few, and the night on the Normandie would be near the top.
