Chapter 11

Justice

“Your restaurant is really nice, and the food is good as hell,” I said to Zahir as we headed to his house.

I was in the passenger side of his black Audi truck. Zahir really had a thing for cars, and every time we chilled together, we were in a different one. I never understood the reason for having more than one car, but I was a woman that wasn’t into spending unnecessary large amounts of money.

“Thank you. So, will my place be a favorite for you now when you visit the A?” he asked, remembering our first conversation about his new business venture.

Nodding my head with a smile on my face, I responded, “Yep. I’ll be there every time I come here now. That food was excellent. Are those all your mother’s recipes?”

“Yeah.” Zahir nodded his head up and down. “She started cooking at a young age, and because she got with my father, she continued to learn as she went.”

“I can tell she’s been cooking for a while. Oh yeah, ya mom wants me to come over and have lunch with her tomorrow.” I remembered the conversation at the table.

Zahir did a double take at me with widened eyes.

“What?” My eyebrows were pushed together in confusion.

“Who told you I wanted you to meet my muthafucking momma?” he started with way too much damn bass in his voice for me. I couldn’t read his blank facial expression, but that didn’t matter, because I was about to spaz on his ass.

“Nah, I’m just playing. That’s cool,” he spoke, laughing, with a relaxed face.

“You play entirely too much. I was about to curse ya ass out.”

“I seen it all in ya damn face, ol’ angry ass. Can’t even take a lil’ ass joke.”

“Whatever.” I rolled my eyes. “Anyway, you have any plans for tomorrow, or will you be there with me?” With a smirk on my face and raised brows, I silently tried to butter him up to come with me.

I wasn’t even going to lie; I was a little nervous about meeting with his mom tomorrow. She was either going to like me or she wasn’t, and vice versa, but I didn’t know if Zahir was one of those dudes where it was going to be a deal breaker if his mom wasn’t feeling me.

“Nah, I have to do the last fitting for my tux for Reid’s wedding.”

“What? When is his wedding?”

“This Saturday. You’re coming, right?” He looked over at me and then back at the road.

“Umm, I guess.”

“What you mean you guess?”

“Well, for one,” I started, “you did not tell me anything about a wedding, which means I have to find something to wear. Then my best friend is out here with me, and you know the relationship between her and Reid. Now I’m supposed to ask her to either find something else to do or tag along with me to his wedding?”

This situation was kind of putting me in an uncomfortable position the more I thought about it.
