Captivated by Clio

Music throbbed around them, a primitive beat that had Clio and Calliope on their feet. They danced together in the VIP section of one of Titus’ favorite night spots. After they’d settled in, Titus had taken them all out to dinner and now dancing and drinks. It would be their last night out before they set sail on what he referred to as Clio’s wild hair.

“Hey,” Calli leaned in close so Clio could hear her over the music. “What’s going on over there?” She nodded toward Noah, who sat watching her, a drink in his hand. She had to admit. He was the sexiest man in the place in all white against chocolate skin. His locs were loose around his shoulders, and occasionally, he would run his fingers through them to push them off his face. When he did, his sleeves would tighten around his bicep, and a thrill of excitement rolled through her in a lusty wave. She’d seen women watching him since they’d walked in, a couple trying their best to get his attention.

But he’d been quiet and somewhat sullen all night. At dinner, while they were raucous and lively, he’d remained silent. She’d nudged him affectionately, trying to get him to join in the fun, but he hadn’t. He’d pouted the entire time, picking at his food.

“Dr. Toussaint, is the steak not to your liking?” Titus asked, addressing Noah for the first time since their arrival. `

“It’s delicious.” Noah offered, “I’m just not very hungry tonight.”

“Would you like anything else? Maybe something lighter? I’m sure the chef would be more than happy to prepare anything you’d like.” Titus offered, but Clio felt that his pleasant demeanor was masking his animosity towards her guest. Noah declined, but Titus continued to watch him throughout dinner, trying to engage him in conversation, but Noah didn’t bite. Noah’s only responses were monosyllabic and rather terse.

He hadn’t even cracked a smile when she told them about their scavenger hunt through the French Quarter and subsequent damage to a historical landmark.

“Look on the bright side, Birdie,” Titus laughed, “You probably initiated some well-needed renovations.” They had all laughed, everyone except Noah.

Even with his antisocial behavior tonight, Clio was about ready to jump on him, wrap herself around him and ride him all night long. Maybe it was the music or the drinks or the fact that he looked like something out of a romance novel. She wanted him.

He looked every bit the alpha male.

She left her sister and crew on the dance floor, moving past the velvet rope with one thing on her mind. She eased beside him on the dark leather sofa, her hand high on his thigh.

“Come dance with me.” She leaned close, her mouth inches from his ear. Her fingers danced lightly across his inner thigh, but he didn’t even flinch. Instead, he just covered her hand with his.

“What’s wrong? Don’t you want to dance with me? Get all hot and sweaty,” She asked, leaning closer. She touched his cheek, her eyes searching his face.
