Chapter Sixteen

When I awoke, Cap was sound asleep on his floor. I felt alone and cold, wondering why he didn’t stay in bed with me, and for some reason, felt a little upset. Not that I could blame him. It was obvious he was trying to keep things professional between us. But feeling his warmth helped me not have nightmares. He comforts me, just like Chase did. It’s odd how at home I feel around Cap, I shouldn’t feel that way, but I do.

Shaking him awake, I perch on the end of his bed, looking over the edge until his deep brown eyes meet mine.

“You could’ve slept in bed with me.”

He groaned, stretching his arms up until every muscle was rippling. “I felt it be better if I stayed down here.”

“Why?”

He shrugged. “I just know that it be better if I did.”

He seemed angry, but I didn’t know why. Did I do something last night to make him angry?

“You ready to go home yet?”

Nodding, I carefully got up off the bed. “Will they let us leave?”

Cap smiled. “Yeah, they will. After your nightmare last night, Zodiac gave me permission to stay with you at your house. He didn’t want to make you uncomfortable by staying here.”

This was definitely not the Hell’s Artillery. Zodiac was a completely different type of president than Baretta. Baretta wouldn’t have let me leave. He would’ve tied me up, had his way with me, then sent me to the wolves.

“Your club is so different from what I expected.”

“There are different types of clubs in the motorcycle world. The Hell’s Artillery is what we call a 1% club. That means they are one percent of the population that thinks they are above the law. They’re known for doing nefarious things like running drugs, human trafficking, rape, and pillaging their way through Rising Star. Consider them to be like pirates or Huns, if you will. They conquer and destroy.”

“And what about the Celestial Sons?”

Cap ran a hand over his mouth, after getting on his feet and resting against his dresser. “When our late president Zenith started this club with Zodiac, they were two men that just loved to ride. They wanted to form a motorcycle club that’s morals and values worked with the law, not against it. We are normally a very peaceful club, but lately, it’s gotten a little rocky. For some reason, the Artillery has set their sights on us, and now we’re doing our best to steer clear of them the best we can.”

I wish Chase would’ve prospected this club instead, but then again, if he did… would I have met Cap and felt the way I do now? Would it have caused problems between Chase and me? Just thinking about it made my stomach coil with unease.

“Do you know why the Artillery has it out for you?”

He shook his head. “No. They just started fucking with us recently. We had a big rally, and they caused trouble there for us. Then one of our Fallen Stars got tangled up with the mob.
