Chapter six
Tayla
I had been trying to reach Hayden ever since I had my first free period at school. He didnât pick up. I tried calling him twice more before going back to class, but he still didnât respond. Once I got out of school, I started blowing his phone up. Not because I was insecure or thought he was cheating, but because I was worried about him.
He didnât answer not one phone call. Now, I was really worried. I almost went to his uncleâs house to ask if he had heard from Hayden or Maxlond, but I knew his answer would be no. They couldnât wait to get as far away from him as possible, so I knew going over there would be pointless.
By the time he decided to respond to my text messages, I had climbed in the bed. He said heâd come pick me up from school tomorrow so we could talk. I sure hoped he had it on his mind to let me know why he was unreachable all damn day.
That night, I tossed and turned worrying about what Hayden had gotten himself involved in. I woke up early the next morning for school. I got dressed, took care of my daily hygiene and headed to school. All day, the only thing I could think about was seeing Hayden and getting to the bottom of why he wasnât answering my calls or text messages yesterday.
When 2:45 came around, I couldnât head to the parking lot faster if I had a motor scooter.
I rushed outside and practically sprinted to the parking lot. He was waiting for me, so I slid into the passenger seat, clicked my seatbelt and waited for his explanation.
âHey,â he said as he glanced over at me.
âHey.â
He put the car in reverse and backed out of the spot. I sniffed the air because there was something different about the odor in here. It smelled like baby powder and flowers. I knew it wasnât from anything that I wore because I didnât use baby powder.
âWhy your car smell like that?â I asked.
He sniffed the air and asked, âSmell like what? I donât smell nothing different.â
âIt smells like flowers and some kind of powder.â
He chuckled a little before saying, âYour mind is playing tricks on you.â
âMy mind maybe, my nose, uh uh. Whatâs that smell? You had some other female in your car?â
âTo be honest, yes.â
âWho was it? Arielle? Kamiyah?â I asked.
The nervousness in his face told me it wasnât either of them. If they hadnât been in his car, who the hell had?
âNah, it wasnât them.â
âThen who?â
âMy baby mama.â
Baby mama! What the hell he meant his baby mama? Last I checked, he said the baby wasnât his. How and when did we get from it ainât mine to my baby mama?
âYour baby mama? I thought you said the baby wasnât yours!â
âI said I didnât think it was mineâ¦â
âNo! You clearly said the baby wasnât yours!â
âI also said that if it was mine, she got pregnant before we met,â he said.
