The call that I had received, a nigga could have done without it. Now I was headed to a hospital to check on a bitch that I was willing to kill a few days ago. However, hearing that I was the only person on her hospital papers reminded me that, technically I was all she had. So instead of being a hoe ass nigga, I decided that I’d see what was good with her.

As I drove, my phone rung, so I picked it up from my lap to see that it was Cheyenne calling me. I wondered if her friend told her what I said.

Ignoring her call, I made a mental note to text her back once I left the hospital.

Now checked in and headed to towards Monroe’s hospital room, a chill came over me. I hated these shits. The smell, the temperature, and the look.

Approaching her room door, I paused. A nigga took in a deep breath because, whew, Monroe better be glad that I used to have love for her.

Twisting the knob of the door, I stepped in and when my eyes landed on her, I couldn’t lie, my heart dropped. The sight of her bandaged body and shut eyes, took my breath away. When they went into details over the phone, I had no idea that shit was this bad.

Never taking my eyes off her, I took small steps further into the room. I couldn’t believe what my eyes were witnessing. Reaching the side of her bed, I stared down at Monroe, getting lost in the good memories that we once shared.

Monroe, indeed, was my down ass bitch. She turned boujee over the years due to the amount of money I had accumulated. Even though she had a bullshit job working at a call center, deep down inside, she knew she didn’t have to work. To be real, her ass had to be part-time because she spent more time shopping and in the streets, than she did at work.

As I stood there deep in my thoughts, I remembered how at one point I loved the fuck out of her. Peering down at her, a part of me wondered if the love was still there. The longer I stared at her, the more my heart rate picked up speed.

Placing my hand over my heart, I rubbed my chest in a circular motion. This feeling was one that I was familiar with. I hadn’t had no one in my life down bad like this. I was usually the person sending other people’s family members to the hospital or the grave.

“Damn, Monroe,” I mumbled.

The beeping noise of the machine caught my attention. Looking up, I studied the lines on the screen, noticing that her heart rate had picked up too.

Maybe, it’s the sound of my voice.

Low groans escaped her mouth, making me take a step back. I observed her, not knowing what to do. Her face squinted and with the grunts that echoed throughout the room, I knew she was in serious pain.
