Heathen

This was getting stressful in a bad way.

“What’s your report?” he asked, voice tight.

They should have been doing this in his office, but Heathen was stretched tight from frustration.

Collin cleared his throat, looking all stiff. “We still haven’t found the leak, boss.”

His hands clenched into fists, knuckles popping from the force of it. “But it’s confirmed that there is a leak?”

“Yeah, boss. We had a few more people casing around some of your properties just in case. The guys didn’t get anyone, but suspicious persons were reported hanging around. They ran off real quick when any of our guys got close, though. We have no idea who they are, or who they’re working for.”

“In other words, we’ve got nothing. Shit!”

Heathen wished he had a glass in his hand just so he could feel the satisfaction of tossing it into the wall. But he shouldn’t do that. Juanita would be angry.

“Come with me,” he muttered darkly to Collin and turned to walk further into the house, heading for his office.

He’d come down to meet Collin by the door when his guy got home with news. They didn’t come across anyone else on their way up. In the past few days, the few workers at the mansion seemed to have come to some silent agreement to stay out of his way, probably noticed how he’d been on a short fuse lately. He didn’t want to take his frustrations out on his people, but sometimes, when his temper flared, he lost it.

It was shameful as hell. Usually, he was the epitome of calm, cool and collected, and now he was losing it over a damn leak and a couple compromised properties.

He had too much on his plate. That was it. Once he got shit fixed up, he was planning for a vacation. He needed one, and he figured he wasn’t the only one.

Heathen walked into his office and headed for the bar in the corner. The spread wasn’t as varied as what he had downstairs, but he really only needed hard liquor in his office. Because if he drank in his office, it was usually because shit hit the fan, so he had what fit his needs. He heard the office door close behind him as Collin entered the room. Heathen already had some scotch poured in a glass and downed it in one shot, then poured some more and turned to Collin.

“Have you heard anything about Sandy?”

“Afraid not, Boss. Either she’s gone underground or she’s skipped town. No one’s seen her since she left Renee’s place.”

“Fuck!”

His fingers tightened around the glass, and he downed his drink and set it down before he gave into the temptation to toss it. Then he stomped over to his desk, rounded it, and planted his ass in the seat.

“What about that guy she left with?”

“Prince. There’s not much about him to be found, it’s like the guy appeared out of nowhere then disappeared. He didn’t make friends so no one noticed.”

That bitch. Did she think he
