I get inside my clothes as fast as I can, Tark’s panicked expression making my heartbeat speed up. Jumping out of bed, I follow him as he leads us back into his office. Kilar trails behind me without saying a word, his large curved blade in one hand, and I resist the urge to look back at him. I should be happy that he’s considering leaving me behind, but I’m not. I can’t say that I’ve grown to like him—even though he knows exactly what he’s doing between the sheets—but I can’t deny that I’ve become somewhat attached to this silver giant.

“Alright, Tark, what’s going on?” I ask him once he closes the door to his office. Outside, on the rec room, his men seem to have no idea of just how scared their boss is. “What has you this riled up? You said nobody knew about this bunker, so what are you worried about?”

Frowning, Tark walks around his desk and fiddles with the wooden panel mounted behind it. At once, the panel slides up into a hidden partition on the ceiling, revealing more than two dozen holographic screens, all of them streaming images from the surveillance cameras mounted on the outside perimeter.

The electrified fences have been torn down by heavy armored shuttles, and at least two hundred Odex are milling around Tark’s main warehouse. They’re busy kicking doors down, swarming into the building with ruthless efficiency. Despite that, they seem to have a relaxed posture, as if they’re confident they won’t find any opposition.

“I don’t think they know about your bunker,” Kilar finally speaks up, his tone low and patient. Standing with his arms crossed over his chest, he looks at the screen with narrowed eyes. “Your warehouse is one of the largest buildings in the area, so I think they might have decided to use it as a temporary headquarters of sorts.” He purses his lips tightly, and then clicks his tongue. “They’re going to gut the place, and they’re going to check every nook and crevice. How secure are the entry points into this bunker?”

“They’re hidden,” Tark says, but he sinks into his chair looking completely deflated. “But if they make a thorough check, they’re bound to find at least one of them, I guess. It’s only a matter of time.”

“Then maybe it’s time you start thinking of leaving this place,” Kilar continues, but Tark just shakes his head. Grabbing an holo-remote from his desk, he clicks on it and the images on the screen change. Now, instead of the main warehouse, they show images of the surrounding ones—and all of them are teeming with soldiers. It seems like the Coalition forces don’t want to leave a stone unturned in the area.

Great.

We’re trapped in here.

“Hold on.” Pointing at a screen on the far left, Kilar places his free hand on Tark’s shoulder. “Can you enlarge that one?” Dutifully, the scared smuggler enlarges the streaming Kilar pointed at, and all the screens blend into one holographic image. In
