CHAPTER 13 Jemila

Uggghhh! What is that taste in my mouth? Ewww! I need to brush my teeth pronto. I slowly open my eyes and look around. I’m not in the guest bedroom. This is some sort of medical facility. Did they take me to the hospital? I sit up and notice I can’t move my left arm. For a second I thought it was gone! Whew! It’s binded to my body. I remember Alexei putting it in a sling last night.

I stand up. Slowly. The last thing I want to do is get light-headed and pass out. As soon as my feet hit the floor a soft light comes on and I can see the room better. Looks like a private hospital room. It’s nice, though. I’m grateful to have been brought here, but I hope they gave a fake name. I can’t be too careful. Aside from my dry mouth, I actually feel a hundred times better! I touch my face and I can tell my swelling has gone down considerably. I touch my hair. I’ll have to thank the nurse that put my hair in a ponytail. She’s the real MVP!

Oh shit! I can open my right eye! Just what the hell did Alexei give me last night to heal like this? Adamantium? Whatever it is, he should bottle it and sell it. He’d make a killing! I hold my right hand out in front of me and flex my fingers. Adamantium isn’t supposed to be real, but I figure why not see if I’ve got metal claws hidden in there? Of course, nothing happens. I shrug. A girl can dream. I check for the knife and it’s still tucked into my sock.

I need a shower and a drink.

The door opens and a bright overhead light comes on. In walks Andrusha and Zak. “I’m glad to see you’re awake finally,” he smiles.

“Finally?” Did I sleep all day?

“Yes. It’s Thursday evening.”

“And…”

“When we brough you here, it was Monday,” Zak says.

“Do what?” I ask, not sure I’m hearing correctly. “I slept for three days?

“For most of it. You were in and out of consciousness. When you were awake, you weren’t quite… “Andrusha clears his throat. “lucid.”

“Well, Alexei gave me some wonder drugs because I feel great. I haven’t felt this good in a long time,” I say while smiling.

“If you are hungry, I can bring you a plate.” Zak always looks so put together. I bet nothing ruffles his feathers.

“Can I eat in the dining room?”

“Yes! Wherever you like.” Andrusha says. He turns to Zak, “I’ll escort her to her bedroom.”

“Da, Pakhan.” Zak leaves the room.

“Can you walk?” Andrusha asks. I know he’d carry me if I say no, and I want him to. So of course, I say yes. I’m being drawn to this man again and I need to slow my roll until I know what he’s about. Meanwhile, I can enjoy flirting with him a little bit.

“That would be great.” He scoops me up in his arms and slowly walks out of the room.
