Devon

We gathered in Mother and Father’s suite. Everyone sat around, waiting to see what would happen next. I glanced over to where Declan and Margot sat. The space between them seemed to widen substantially every time I saw them together. No more were the flirtatious winks, the sly grins, the inconspicuous taps on the butt. To anyone on the outside, they looked like any other happily married couple. However, to me, they looked miserable with one another.

Maybe that was the cause of Declan’s sudden desire to take over. Was Margot pushing him for more? Or was he so unhappy at home he needed more at work to prove his worth?

Margot’s shoulder length platinum blonde hair seemed to shine brighter with her anger. The creases between her eyebrows deepened when Declan slipped his hand toward her across the space between them. She scowled at him and jerked her hand into her lap. Not even the brightness of her flower-covered dress was enough to offer an appearance of giddiness. She might be small in stature, but I have no doubt she could best Declan, given half the chance with the amount of hatred boiling off her at that moment.

The warmth of Carina sitting next to me brought my attention back to her when she wiggled in her seat. A gentle squeeze to her knee lifted her eyes to mine. The smile she gifted me with had memories of our previous escapade running through my mind. That luscious mouth of hers was just as talented in other aspects as it was in telling me what she did and didn’t enjoy in the bedroom.

“I need all eyes up here,” Mother demanded. Everyone turned her direction.

All the assistants lined up against the left wall, tapping on their tablets and sifting through information to provide us with later. Marri was one of six standing there and, though substantially smaller than the rest, she commanded the most respect. She was the goal for others to gauge their success by.

Twyla stepped forward to hand Mother a sheet of paper. She looked at it for an instant before handing it over to Father. His eyes grew wide as he read the information. He looked back at Mother and then at Twyla. “Is this verified?”

“Yes, sir.” Twyla nodded. “Three times over. Dion confirmed it with his own eyes.”

Dion was one of our regular security guys on Earth. He was tasked with scouting ahead when we come to this plane, making sure the path was clear and there would be zero resistance to our arrival. He had been human, but Father gifted him centuries ago with eternal life. The only drawback being he couldn’t function in the sunlight and had to live off the sustenance of human blood. I think the humans call him a vampire. He didn’t seem to mind the trade-off, and was compensated remarkably for it.

Father handed the paper back to Twyla, and she returned to the line against the wall.

“It looks like the demon lord has decided to make a visit to Earth as well.
