Lieutenant Kellyâs Office
4:20 p.m.
Marcus Kelly dialed the number on his cellphone for the third time in an hour. He still got no answer, and for the third time, he left a message.
âPlease call me when you get this. Itâs very important.â
He hung up just as his office phone rang. âLieutenant Kelly.â
âMarcus, this is Walsh.â
âHey, Cap. To what do I owe the pleasure?â
âI understand you have another body on your hands from the JFK Library area, is that right?â
âIâm afraid so. Murphy and Sullivan were at the autopsy this afternoon.â
âAre they connected?â
âAccording to Megan Quinn, they are.â
There were several moments of silence, then it sounded to Kelly like his boss had come to a decision. âLetâs do this. Call Grace Sheehan over at the BAU, tell her the situation, and see if she thinks she can help us.â
Kelly had already considered bringing in an agent from the FBI field office. Grace Sheehan was Chief of the Behavior Analysis Unit at the Boston field office, and not someone Kelly was personally acquainted with. âWhat about McDonald?â
âHeâs good, but Grace owes me one. Tell her I asked specifically for her to look at the case.â
âOkay. Iâll take care of it today.â
âGood. I gotta run.â
The line went dead, but Kelly held on to the receiver while he spun his Rolodex. He could put all the information on his computer, but he knew where everything was on this antiquated card file, and stubbornly refused to give it up. Quickly finding the number, he punched it in.
âFBI, Boston office.â
âYes, Agent Sheehan, please.â
âOne moment.â
There were several clicks as the call moved through various trackers and recorders. âBehavioral Analysis.â
âAgent Sheehan, please.â
âThis is Sheehan.â
âAgent Sheehan, this is Lieutenant Marcus Kelly from BPD precinct C-6.â
âAfternoon, Lieutenant. How can I help you?â
âWe have a case over here that might benefit from your unitâs expertise. Captain Walsh suggested I give you a call.â
âWalsh is good people. Whatâs the basics?â
âTwo female bodies, close proximity dump sites, same injuries, same basic physical description.â
âInteresting. I can come by tomorrow morning. Will the detectives handling the case be there?â
âGive me a time and Iâll make sure they are.â
âOkay, how about nine?â
âPerfect. See you then, and thanks.â
He hung up the phone and punched in another number.
âThis is Murphy.â
âMurph, itâs Kelly.â
âYeah, boss?â
âNeed you here by nine tomorrow morning. BAU is sending an analyst over.â
âOh... okay. Can do.â
âAlert Sullivan for me, will ya?â
âYes, sir.â
Kelly hung up again. Taking out his cellphone, he hit redial. Within seconds, he was leaving his fourth message of the afternoon.
