Derrick lit his third blunt in the last twenty minutes. He was also halfway through a bottle of Henny while waiting for Chauncey to get off work. He called just to make sure she was on shift before he made his way up to the cancer center. D was losing his damn mind without his bitch. The thought of another nigga having her was sending him up crazy man lane. He barely slept because he was trying to piece together her every move through her social media. She blocked him but that didn’t stop him from creating a burner account, posing as a woman, just to keep up with her.

He was so far gone that he was neglecting Micah. It wasn’t his intention to skip out on his parenting duties, but it was a full time gig trying to keep up with Chauncey. From her social media, he had figured out that she was able to purchase the building she always dreamed of. He was proud of her and wanted to show his appreciation by taking her out on a date. On the way to pick her up, he made up his mind that she was going with him one way or another.

Just as he finished the blunt, he spotted Chauncey strolling through the parking lot. The sight of her alone made his heart smile. That was how he knew they were meant to be together forever. As he stumbled out his car, he noticed a nigga approach Chauncey and grab her by the arm. When he saw her snatch away from the man and start to fuss at him, Derrick just knew that meant that her heart still belonged to him. The closer he got, he realized that the nigga Chauncey was interacting with was Herc. Though he and Herc weren’t close or anything, they had become familiar because Herc copped weed from him sometimes. Instead of interfering, D ducked behind a car and decided to watch the situation unfold.

“Herschell, when I told you to leave me alone, I meant that shit!” Chauncey fumed.

“No, you didn’t. You’re just upset right now and understandably so. Look, I know this shit is fucked up—”

“It is beyond fucked up! Please just leave me alone. You’re making this situation harder than it has to be.”

Derrick was confused when he saw the tears in Chauncey’s eyes. It was rare that she ever cried about anything. His confusion quickly turned to rage when he saw how Herc was consoling her. The way Chauncey melted into his arms let D know that they were way more familiar with each other than he thought. No longer able to control himself, D stood up and marched towards them.

“What the fuck is going on here?” he barked at the two of them.

Releasing each other from their embrace, they both turned to look at him. “Derrick?” they said at the same time.

“How do you know him?” Herc looked at Chauncey with a jealous glare.

“This my fuckin’ girl. Why the fuck you all up on her like that?”

Chauncey waved her hands.
