Chapter 20

Axel

I looked at Nora’s pale face, her complexion now matched the white envelope she had carried in.

“I found that in my locker,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “I know that handwriting—it’s from him.”

My jaw tightened knowing he had been in the locker room, had been that close to where she was. What if he had waited for her there instead of just leaving a note?

“He won’t get you I promise.”

I picked Nora up, sitting in her seat and holding her in my lap. I stroked her hair until her breathing evened out and she seemed calmer.

“How do you think he got in?” Kathleen asked.

“I’m guessing the back entrance. The cameras that are there are shit at night. They are already getting replaced today and more are being added but that doesn’t help right now,” I said.

I looked down at Nora. Her face had regained its normal color but I could still see the tightness around her eyes. She didn’t deserve this and I shouldn’t have let this happen.

“I’m sorry Doll. I’m sorry I didn’t stop this from happening.”

She looked at me surprised, “You have nothing to be sorry for. That asshole is who should be sorry. Sure it was scary finding the letter but that’s it. I didn’t think he was still there.”

“I should have—”

“No you shouldn’t. This guy has been doing this to me for months. You can’t expect to catch him in less than a week.” She raised her eyebrow at me, daring me to say she’s wrong.

“You already scheduled to have the camera’s fixed in the back entrance,” Kathleen offered and Nora smiled at her.

“See, not your fault, he has a head start. You will catch him. I’m not scared, it just took me by surprise. I don’t think he can get me.”

I wanted to argue but I knew when to not argue with a woman, and there were two of them here to try and prove their point.

“Did you want to know what the letter said?” I asked. “I need to get someone to fingerprint it first.”

Nora chewed on her lip for a minute before nodding.

“Ok, I’m going to call in a team. They will sweep the building and take the envelope for evidence. Lina will let us know what it is after they check it.”

Nora nodded and I turned to Kathleen.

“If you’re ok with it I’d like to have someone here 24/7,” I said.

Kathleen nodded, “Of course. If he’s getting into the locker rooms, who knows where else he can get.”

I nodded and pulled out my phone, keeping one arm wrapped around Nora. She seemed a lot calmer than before but I still felt a storm raging inside of me. I knew the weak points of the building but I’d stupidly assumed when he saw Nora had protection, he would back down.

Rowan answered his phone on the first ring, “We are done with the op here, need a hand?” he asked, cutting straight to the point.

“I’m glad you're done early, I need a full team,” I said.
