Billionaire’s Catch 22

Chapter 1

Elisa was in her final year at the University of San Diego. She was studying sports medicine and had her heart set on medical school. She shared a house with four other girls; the rent was outrageous at the beach. She wanted to live close to both school and work, but you had to pay a hefty price for such conveniences and beauty.

She was happy to have found four girls to share the rent with. Although it was nothing more than a shared agreement to each pay their portion of the rent, Elisa was glad that at least they were decent enough. She had a hard time connecting with them intellectually, though. They were still all about partying and hangovers. Elisa didn’t think they had their priorities right. But nevertheless, they were still company for her when she wanted it. When she needed it.

Her roommates had different work and school schedules, so it wasn’t unusual for her to eat a frozen dinner or peanut butter and jelly sandwich by herself while catching up on her shows or doing homework. Tonight, however, two of her roomies were home. They decided to make tacos.

While each of them gabbed about nothing important, they browned the meat and cut up the tomatoes and lettuce for the tacos. Another roommate shredded the cheese. When they sat around the table and started eating, they began to discuss their day. When Elisa told them about the near drowning, nothing else got much attention.

“Yep, I jumped into the water and pulled him to safety. And this guy must have weighed two hundred pounds. A big guy,” she said, nodding rapidly and waving her hands in drama.

Later that night while lying in bed and reliving the moments, Elisa came to terms with a couple of things. One, he hadn’t weighed two hundred pounds, more like one hundred and sixty. And two, she had been scared shitless the entire time. It wasn’t her first rescue, but the sheer horror of watching someone flailing their arms and gasping for breath never got any easier.
