CHAPTER THIRTEEN
As Dr. Frank OâBrien finished his work on Hannah, she said, âOh, praise the Lord! My babyâs healthy and normal. Thank you, Doc! Thank you for taking such good care of us.â
Docâs Irish eyes twinkled. âThatâs what Iâm supposed to do, Hannah.â
Glenda turned from Edie and the newborn infant and leaned over to kiss Hannahâs forehead. âSuch a perfect little baby, honey. Solomon would have been so proud.â
Hannah nodded. âYes, he would.â
âWhile Edieâs getting the baby ready, honey,â said Glenda, âIâll bathe you a bit, then change your bedding.â
When Hannah was finally sitting up with pillows at her back and clean sheets and blankets enfolding her, she reached out her arms toward the portly little woman holding the bundled infant and said, âIâm ready now.â
Edie nodded. âCanât blame you for being eager to get this little bundle in your arms, Hannah. This is one beautiful child!â
Hannahâs heart seemed to turn over within her breast as the baby was placed in her arms and she gazed at the tiny face. Her lips quivered as she said, âOh, he looks so much like Solomon!â
Little Eddie moved his mouth silently and seemed to focus on the face of his mother with eyes the same shade of blue as Solomonâs.
âAnd that means he looks a lot like B. J.,â said Hannah. âThis is going to make B. J. so happy!â
Tears spilled down Hannahâs cheeks as her heart enlarged to make room for this special little child.
While Doc, Edie, and Glenda looked on, Hannah carefully folded the blanket back and examined every inch of him. âYes, you are one perfect little boy.â
Once again wrapping the downy blanket snugly around him, Hannah held little Eddie close to her heart and placed a tender kiss on top of his soft, fuzzy head. âEddie, Iâm your mother, and I love you so very much. You have already stolen your mamaâs heart. Now, precious little boy, I want to tell you the same thing I told your brothers and sisters right after they were born. There is a name I want your ears to hear now, and for the rest of your life. The name is Jesus. He is Godâs Son, Eddie, and when He was born into the world, His mother wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger.
âThat precious little boy didnât have a mortal father like you, honey. His mother was a virgin, and God was His Father. Listen to these words. âFor God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.â Eddie, you will hear this truth over and over and over again. You will hear the gospel, precious sonâhow that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. And one dayâwhen youâre old enough to understand about sin and salvationâyou will turn to Jesus and ask Him to save you.
