Emerald

It hadn’t been my intention to sleep over last night. Hell, it really hadn’t been my intention to sleep with Rhyon at all. I honestly went over just to talk to her and bury the tension between us. The revelation of her being pregnant by me a few years ago, really sent me for a loop. Our baby would have been at least four going on five, had it survived. To think…there could have been a little mini me walking around in the world. It was killing me knowing that it was probably all the stress she was under during that time that caused her to lose the baby in the first place. I had always wanted a family with Rhyon. And now to know that had been a reality back then just wasn’t sitting right with me.

I looked over at her sleeping peacefully next to me. My fingers trailed over her soft skin. My thumb traced the outline of those pouty lips that had always propelled me to kiss her whenever she bit down on them. I loved this woman to no end. She was so fucking beautiful. So perfect. There was no way I could afford to fuck this up this time. I leaned over and kissed her lips softly. She stirred but remained asleep.

I eased out of bed and reached for my phone. It was around ten-thirty. Deciding to cook us some breakfast, I slipped on my boxers and went into the kitchen. While I got everything out I checked my messages and emails. There were a few from my manager updating me on my schedule changes. A few from my producer letting me know that he had beats for me for my next album. I had been working on a couple of songs before I left, so maybe I would do some writing while I was here.

I started cooking a breakfast of French toast, eggs and sausage. I was almost done when Rhyon came around the corner yawning. She had slipped into her robe and pulled her hair up into a bun.

“Good morning,” she said coming over to me. She stood on her tip toes and kissed me sweetly.

“Good morning beautiful,” I said with a smile. “How did you sleep?”

“Like a damn rock. You really wore me out last night.” She giggled.

“Then I did my job,” I said turning back to the stove. She came behind me and wrapped her arms around my waist. I felt her lips kissing my back and shoulders.

“I’m happy you’re here, Emerald,” she whispered resting her head on my back.

“Me too baby,” I said trying to hold back the wave of emotions I was feeling being like this with her. “I could get use to waking up to you again, Rhyon.”

“It would take a lot for that to happen,” she said pulling away.

“Like what?” I asked scraping the eggs onto a plate.

“I’ve made a life for myself here, Emerald. I’m going great at my firm and I am up for partner. The youngest and only Black woman to do so in years.
